    1. Characteristics of POM

POM is a highly versatile engineering plastic with excellent mechanical strength, abrasion resistance and chemical resistance.

Used in many industrial parts because it has excellent processability and is available at low cost.

Continuous use temperature is 85°C ~ 105°C, melting point is 175°C, glass transfer point is -50°C.

POM is a material that is easy to handle, strong, and difficult to break, and less likely to crack or chip during handling or use.

Additionally, POM is suitable for precision machining because it is free-cutting and not easy to produce streaks, and any streaks that appear are easy to remove.

After cutting, the cutting surface becomes glossy.

Furthermore, because POM has low water absorption and high abrasion resistance, it is less susceptible to size changes when used for a long time.

Excellent tensile strength (67-69MPa), bending strength (88MPa) and bending modulus (2580MPa).

POM has excellent heat resistance among plastic materials, with continuous operating temperatures from 85°C to 105°C.

If higher temperature environments are expected, nylon MCs and super-engineered plastics are candidates.

Resistant to most chemicals and organic solvents except strong acids.

POM has low weather resistance among engineering plastics, so is not suitable for outdoor use.

Flammable and should be used away from the fire source.

In addition, there is no compatible adhesive, making it difficult to bond.

    1. Purpose

Parts of semiconductor manufacturing equipment such as cams, guides, liners, jigs, etc.

Food equipment parts, electronic equipment parts and mechanical parts.

    1. Example using POM machined products

Types of POM for food contact applications used in production line components.

POM was chosen to address component degradation and loss of performance due to stress and friction damage to other components.

POM has high mechanical strength and abrasion resistance as well as excellent chemical resistance, so it is suitable as parts in food processing machines.

This prevents breakage during handling and contamination of debris.

POM is also used in the automotive industry, where metal parts are increasingly replaced to make products lighter.

POM has high heat resistance, suitable for making nuts, caps, valves of fuel system parts.

Here, a high viscosity POM type and a higher functional sliding type are used.
