Yumoto Vietnam and Its First Experience Machining PBT-GF30 Material

Date Submitted: December 30, 2025

PBT-GF30 is an engineering plastic reinforced with glass fiber, requiring high precision and strict quality control. In its first project involving this material, Yumoto Vietnam (Yumonam) implemented various control measures to ensure the final product fully met the customer’s technical requirements.

    1. Proactive Material Sourcing from Overseas Suppliers

As PBT-GF30 is difficult to source in Vietnam, Yumonam proactively imported the material from overseas suppliers. Our client also requested that the material must be compliant with RoHS and REACH regulations, so we made sure to select our suppliers carefully and asked them to provide us with material certification (mill sheet). This ensured that the raw material quality met the customer’s specifications from the very beginning.

    2. Sample Machining and Approval Before Mass Production

As the precision component has a complex geometric shape that makes it hard to achieve tight tolerances, we had to produce the sample more than once. For the first sample runs, we used POM material as it is more affordable and we can easily purchase this material in Vietnam. Once we were able to confirm the programming was working, we then proceeded machining three units of samples with the PBT-GF30 material. We exported the final samples with inspection results, including photos of CMM and Image Dimension Measuring System results.

After the sample was approved by the customer, they placed an order to Yumonam to proceed with mass production of 500 units.

    3. Drawing Review and In-Process Measurement

Before starting the mass production run, engineers at Yumoto Vietnam reviewed the drawings and made note of which dimensions needed special attention based on previous sample production experience. We also made sure to carefully measure all dimensions for the first few units before continuing to subsequent machining processes. In addition, due to the limited availability of the material, the machining process required a high level of care and concentration from the engineers to both meet delivery schedules and minimize material loss.

The first experience machining PBT-GF30 required strict control from material sourcing and sample machining to in-process and post-production inspection. These practical experiences have helped Yumonam continuously refine its machining methods, ensuring high accuracy and product quality for mass production.
