Cleaning Jig CNC Machining Overview (POM & SUS304)

A customer in Japan requested the production of a cleaning jig made from POM and SUS304. The purpose of this jig is to securely hold multiple round products during the cleaning process. The jig is lowered into a cleaning sink of boiling water (100 degrees Celsius) at the customer’s factory, allowing the products to be cleaned efficiently and consistently. The SUS304 component is used for the handle bars, while the POM component forms the base of the jig, where the products are securely fixed.

Below is a photo of the cleaning jig.

Design Support for Cleaning Jig: From 3D Model to Production

We supported the customer from the design stage. The customer already had a 3D model for the base part but required our support to design and integrate the SUS304 handle bars. Initially, we proposed placing the handles along the longer sides of the jig.

After reviewing the first design, the customer requested that the handles be positioned on the shorter sides instead. We promptly revised the design and received approval from the customer to proceed with production.

Material Selection for High-Temperature Cleaning Jigs (POM vs MC Nylon)

Originally, the customer requested that the base part be made from heat-resistant MC Nylon (MC602ST, brown), which has a continuous use temperature of up to 150°C, making it suitable for boiling water applications. However, due to the high material cost, the total production cost exceeded the customer’s budget.

We then proposed using standard MC Nylon (blue), which has a continuous use temperature of up to 120°C. To further reduce costs, we also suggested POM (white) as an alternative material.

Although POM has a lower continuous use temperature of approximately 85–100°C, it can withstand temperatures above 100°C when exposed for short periods. Since the cleaning jig is only immersed in boiling water briefly during the cleaning process, POM was considered a viable and cost-effective solution.

Ultimately, the customer selected POM for the base part in order to achieve the lowest possible cost.

Assembly Testing and Fit Verification After CNC Machining

After machining the product, our engineers and design team conducted an assembly testing of all the parts to make sure they fit together as intended.

Final Results: Customer Satisfaction and Future Production Potential

The customer was satisfied with the final cleaning jig and is considering placing an order for a similar jig in the future.
